Our Chapter was founded in 1991 when a group of ALS patients, families and friends formed an organization to provide support to people in Colorado and Wyoming afflicted with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). We have a variety of services available to help improve the quality of life for those living with ALS and their families. All services are free of charge and include: a medical equipment loan program, the Doris Lackner Respite Care Fund, support groups, educational information, referrals and one-on-one support. Art from Ashes empowers struggling youth through poetry and therapeutic workshops.

Art from Ashes partners with organizations to provide poetry and creative arts workshops for youth who are in residential treatment, urban environments, homeless, incarcerated, or court-involved. We guide young people in need of hope and a self-determined future to understand and recognize their own value and purpose. Art from Ashes combines expression, the articulation of painful events or circumstances in their young lives; connection, the ability to release the pain and fear of those experiences among peers and mentors; and transformation, using the power of strong, healthy words to encourage an identity that is not based in victimization. Colorado Canine Rescue is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that was incorporated in 2008.  Our mission is to rescue dogs from the shelter that have run out of time.  We take them from the shelter and place them in foster homes until we can find their forever homes. Through the use of our foster homes, we rehabilitate and provide any necessary medical care while matching them with their perfect adoptive families. The mission of Colorado Youth for a Change is to solve the dropout crisis in Colorado. By incorporating national research and local data analysis, CYC is charting a path to fulfill the Governor's challenge of cutting the dropout rate in half in Colorado by 2017. Food Bank of the Rockies distributed over 26 million pounds of food last year through 1,100 hunger-relief programs in Northern Colorado, including Metro Denver and the entire state of Wyoming. Of the 321,000 people served annually, nearly half are children. Since 1978, FBR, through our partner agencies – soup kitchens, shelters and pantries -, has provided over 270 million meals for people in need. LifeSpark Cancer Resources provides hands-on energy therapy sessions for individuals with cancer.  We offer an oasis in the storm and support care on all levels of being.  Energy therapies (Reiki and Healing Touch) use a gentle light touch and can decrease the harsh side effects of cancer treatment while also supporting a sense of peace and well-being.  Research indicates that they support a decreased in pain, fatigue, stress, and depression, and have a beneficial cumulative effect over time.  LifeSpark is a non-profit organization and volunteers are welcome.  www.LifeSparkNow.org

The Loving Arms Team builds long-term relationships with abandoned children in Romania. Our purpose is to grow together with orphaned youth as people who share God’s beauty, forming an extended family of faith, hope, and love. We conduct summer camps for severely abused teens, and participate in year-round activities that empower them to find their place in society. Throughout the 36 year history of Metro CareRing, the faces of poverty have remained the same. Individuals and families come through our doors needing help to meet their most basic human needs…food to feed their bodies, their children, their families. They are met by dedicated volunteers who provide a listening ear and suggestions on other short-term solutions to their current situations. Unfortunately, food alone does not eliminate poverty. Metro CareRing joins with other organizations to educate and mobilize the community to affect long-term solutions to hunger, poverty and homelessness. Project 1.27 is “a Ministry from the Churches of Colorado to the Orphans of Colorado.” We produce successful adoptions between families in church communities and legally free children in the Colorado foster care system by recruiting, training and supporting adoptive parents, support teams, churches, counties, agencies and other partners to provide hope for all children and benefit our state and society. Whiz Kids Tutoring is a faith-based, after-school, one-to-one tutoring program for disadvantaged students throughout the Denver Metro area. Whiz Kids  has matched 760 trained volunteer tutors with 760 elementary and middle school youth at 41 tutoring sites throughout the Denver Metro area.   We work with kids who are most at-risk for failing out of school. We help them improve academically, provide them with the weekly support of a caring adult, and bolster their spirits.
